USAirways Boeing 737-300 |
Yay! Finally updated! Anyway, this is a USAirways Boeing 737. The 737 is a widely used aircraft and has a good safety record. The design is rather old, but new technologies are added to it everyday and the plane just keeps on flying! The newest version is the 737-800. It's quite spectacular to see that thing take off and land. I'm not too sure, but this one shown looks like either a 737-300 or 737-400. Most likely the 300 because it says "USAir" on the tail. The name was changed a few years ago to USAirways, so this plane here is probably an older model.

I'm keeping this pic up for those of you who didn't see it yet. I love this plane! This is one of America's first jet aircraft, used during the Korean War and replacing the P-51 Mustang. This plane was extremely maneuverable for its time and is also a very beautiful plane, don't you think? The swept-wing design was a new concept for the US during the years this plane was manufactured. It wasn't the newest technology, but we were still experimenting with the breakthrough. This design gave us the edge in aerial combat--the F-86 could out-fly just about any competition in the sky! And being one of our first fighter planes to carry missiles, even more tests were made! (Note the similarities between the Sabre and both the MiG 15 Midget of Korea and the MiG 17 Fresco of Vietnam Wars.) | F-86 Sabre

Messerschmitt 262 |
Before the F-22 Raptor was thunk up, the military had begun thinking of a fighter/bomber that would meet the criteria of each branch of the service. Boeing's idea for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) was this one shown. This navy version had shorter wings so it could fit on the carrier decks, VERY tough landing gear support, and twin engine safety. The air force wanted a single engine (for weight) jet with expanded range. For the Marines a VTOL a/c (Vertical Takeoff and landing aircraft). Like the harrier. I'm not sure how the funding is/was coming along, but I think the government decided to scrap the pjoject in order to afford the F-22. Oh well, we'll probably do it again sometime in the future!
